Assessment of mooring configurations for the IEA 15MW floating offshore wind turbine

To achieve cost-effective deployment of floating offshore wind farms, it is necessary to reduce mooring costs Floating Offshore Wind Turbines (FOWTs). Beyond the cost, in terms environmental impact, seabed disrupted area due lines should be mitigated with care. The objective this paper shed light on design parameters for cost- effective and low-footprint configurations FOWTs using coupled dynamic analyses. A space explored different pretension ratios, laid down length ratios clump weight sizes. Ultimate fatigue load cases are simulated OpenFast compute floater motions, line tensions damage. With constant ratio 0.15 adding weights 40t, length, footprint peak tension can reduced by 14%, 15% 9% respectively, while maximum surge damage increase 25% 12% respectively. This will serve as a basis further work EU H2020 funded project COREWIND provide practical reference system FOWTs.
